Week 8: Tornadoes and lots of food

I put sriracha on everything and my comp thinks it’s hilarious so she took some awesome pictures of it :)

Hello everyone!
This week has been a crazy one! It has been so busy!
Last Saturday was my first baptism! Her name is Lily and she is 10 years old. It was super exciting! But it was also craziness because we found out she wanted to be baptized Saturday on Thursday night. Then Friday we were on exchanges so we couldn’t plan very much. But it all worked out and it was an awesome baptism! 3 of our investigators, who are siblings from a part member family, were able to come!

So two nights ago my companion and I were at the vc and the senior couple comes up and is showing us a map and telling us there is going to be a tornado... so everyone runs outside and sure enough, in one direction the sky was turning black but in the other direction it was perfectly sunny and bright still. So then the senior couple wants to test our tornado alarm, so they go turn that on, which scares everyone at the vc. And all of the other sisters were so confused because we don’t have the news or anything so they had no idea what was going on. Basically it was just a crazy night, haha. Especially when Elder Sharp pulls out this huge radio that has the longest antenna I’ve ever seen and turns on some weird news station... it was quite the show watching everyone. But luckily the tornado did not come to Independence!

On Sundays we bring the sacrament to a family who can’t come to church. So we are waiting for one of the young men and his leader to show up to bless the sacrament. A different young man comes every week. So while we are waiting the mom offers us some dinner, but we knew we had a dinner appointment right after. But they don’t have much and we didn’t want to be rude (plus she’s an amazing chef!) So we said yes. Well right as we start eating dinner, the young man and his leader walk in and the young man is a part of the family that was feeding us dinner right after!! So that was super awkward....

I learned a lot about angels ministering to us over the past week. I think it is so amazing that angels are always there to help us and give us strength, we just need to ask for them to help us. Remember that you are never alone and there is always help. In the words of Albus Dumbledore, "Hope can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." (Or something close to that)

I love you all and hope you are well!

*from Logan's email to the family after she learned about the car accident her brothers were in...

Hi everyone! I am so glad to hear that everyone is okay and out of the hospital! That news was so scary; it was the most scared I’ve ever been. Also President Vest didn’t do a very good job of clarifying that you would all be okay, so I’m very thankful for the emails you have been sending me, they helped a lot. It is so crazy what happened! But the Lord was definitely helping out with all of those people there. We had a vc training last Friday and it was about angels and how they can minister to us and help us. I know there were angels with all of you that day and there still are. I am so thankful for that and for the comfort I was able to find in the Lord.
