Week 77: How Great was my Joy

This past week has been full of so much happiness, tears and tender feelings as I have been looking back to my mission and  all that I have learned here in Missouri. I thank Heavenly Father constantly for the experiences that I have been so blessed to have had on my mission. I would love to share with everyone my last testimony as a set-apart representative of my Savior, Jesus Christ.

I know that Jesus Christ lives. I know that he is SO aware of each and every one of you and that he has a path for all of us. As we rely on His Atonement then we can find the strength and healing we all need on this life. I have seen it in the less active member who struggles to find the strength to come back, I have seen it in the investigator who is searching for love and guidance in life, I have seen it in families as they strive to keep their family together. But most of all, I have seen it in myself. As Christ has given me the strength to knock just on more door, to talk with one more person, to take one more tour. He has given me the strength to keep going and to become the person that I need to be. I have grown a lot and changed on my mission but my mission truly isn't what changed me. The Savior's Atonement changed me while my mission was the vessel that allowed that to happen. I love my Savior Jesus Christ and I very humbly thank Him for these past 18 months.

Thank you all for the love and support you have given me, I cant express how much it has meant to me. My homecoming talk is on July 15th and I will be having a homecoming party sometime before that. Stay tuned on facebook for more details.
I love you all! See you soon!

Week 76: Blessings!

Jeopardy with the sisters!

Hello everyone!
It has been a great week! I have a little more than a week left on my mission and I feel like Heavenly Father has really been wrapping things up and it is ending perfectly. I feel so blessed.
Here are some of this weeks miracles:
  • JC was baptized! It was amazing! The ward really stepped in and took her in and she has such a solid foundation in the gospel and in the ward.
    Jc was baptized!
  • I got to go on exchanges with my bestie, Sister McDonald!
My bestie- Sister McDonald and Patrick Murphy!!

  • I got to see Samone!!! She is from NKC ward and is one of my favorites! That was amazing!
    Samone!
  • A lot of super crazy bus tours came in but it was special to see that they all worked out! Heavenly Father truly is in charge of His work.
I was finally able to read President Nelson's talk to the youth from a few weeks ago, and it was amazing! Our mission just finished doing the social media fast and we saw so many blessings and miracles come from it! It all reminds me of something President Love said this week. He said, if we diligently do the small things, then the big things will work out. I have found that to be so true!! Heavenly Father loves us and He is here to help us.

I love you all!

Week 75: Best Tour Ever!

Some old MIM missionaries came back to visit <333

OKAY.
LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE BEST WEEK EVER.
So many AMAZING things happened! I feel just like this scripture:
Alma 27:17
"17 Now the joy of Ammon was so great even that he was full; yea, he was swallowed up in the joy of his God, even to the exhausting of his strength; and he fell again to the earth."

Alrighty, let me explain why this week was so amazing!

  • We went to the zoo last p-day and had the best time ever with our zone!

  • We found a new investigator who is so solid. He grew up knowing there was a God but now he knows he needs God. He is amazing!

  • Elder Echo Hawk came to the Visitors Center and he shared a little but powerful spiritual thought with us. It was amazing!

  • I had Polynesian food again!! #myfav #loveindependence

  • Sister Rust's new companion speaks Spanish so we were able to go to the best restaurant ever, El Chavo! It was AMAZING!

  • IISHA WAS BAPTIZED!!!!!!!!!!!! She is seriously one of my favorite people I have ever met. She has such a strong desire to follow Christ and such a love for life.

  • okay. miracle central everyone. So on teaching center about a year ago I contacted a lady named Kathryn who requested a free Book of Mormon. I started working with her online and she was baptized! I continued to work with her and we have become really close over the past year. I hadn't messaged her in about a month and last week I felt prompted to message her. So I did and she responded telling me that she was driving by Zion soon and she was so excited...... I SAID WHAT!!! I told her that is where I am serving and she had no idea! Because I work online she thought I was based out of New York. So today she stopped at the Liberty Jail and I was able to give her a tour and hear her testimony and
it
was
the
best
day
of
my
life!!!!!!

I love serving a mission. Absolutely love it.

Spiritual thought of the week: God is 100% aware of ALL of His children. Of your needs, your happiness, everything. He wants to hear from you so that He can help you and help you return to Him. As we turn to our Heavenly Father in prayer and as we are honest with Him and truly strive to listen to Him and to promptings, then He can shape us and mold us into something even greater. As I look back on my mission I can truly say that I have allowed my will to be overtaken by my Heavenly Father's will and I have seen miracles upon miracles and never ending joy come from that. My favorite scripture right now is Mosiah 15:7. Our Savior allowed His will to be swallowed up first so that we can allow ours to be and become even better. God is so great!

I love you all!

Week 74: God is Alive!

Welcome to the VC!

Hello! This was a wonderful week!
We went to the Kansas City Zoo today so I don't have too much time to write, but the zoo was so fun! At one point Sister Cardenas said, "I have walked more here than I have ever walked in my area" #VClife

Highlights of the week:
  • We had a great lesson with one of our investigators and scheduled her baptismal interview! Great things are happening in Independence 1st ward!
  • We had a lesson with our favorite less active and she came to church!! It was amazing!!! I had a cool experience with that that I'll talk about later.
  • We had a MIRACLE tracting! So we were super lost in this apartment complex. We finally found where we were trying to go and we got to talk to this cool guy outside who said that he found a Book of Mormon in his house. He doesn't know where it came from but it sparked his interest and he wants to learn more! So we set up an appointment and as we drove off we realized 2 amazing things. 1. He was reading the pamphlet we had just given him 2. We still weren't where we had been trying to go. God had completely led us there! God is so great.
  • I got to take 2 of my favorite RMs from this mission through and it was the most spiritual tour ever! They were VC sisters so they already knew the doctrine. We just focused a lot on the doctrine and what we can learn from the early saints. I loved it!
    Singing at the Christus
  • Another one of my favorite families from Inde 3drd came to visit! I feel so blessed!
  • I went to my last zone conference! They have us give a departing testimony when it is your last transfer and it was so sad but so powerful because there was 9 of us in that conference. I am so grateful for my mission and the memories from it, but even more for the testimony I have gained from it.

9 of us going home from our zone :`(
The 3 Amigos!

Going back to our favorite LA coming to church. So it was fast Sunday this past Sunday and I felt like I shouldn't pick anything specific to fast about. Which is weird because it is more meaningful when you pick something. So I didn't pick anything but I kept thinking about that all day. Our less active had been having car problems all day, and then in studies she said she will come if she could get her car to work. I then felt really strongly that that was what I was fasting for. So then I said a prayer for her and it was amazing! She made it all the way to church and then right after church her car was broken again. God can work miracles! It was a great church meeting too, a lot of what was said was so focused around her concerns.

I love you all! I am excited for another great week in the mission!

Week 73: Fortune Cookie

Favorites from the New Mark Ward.
Hello!
This week was so wonderful! Being back in Independence just makes every day so good! And serving the Lord of course ;)
Here are the highlights:
  • I got to go to my first sacrament in Independence 1st ward, and they had me speak! It was a really great experience and it helped me get to know all of the wonderful members.
  • We had an AMAZING lesson! So we were teaching our investigator who is on date a pretty hard lesson... the law of chastity.... So we taught it to her and then she just went silent. I was praying so hard during those moments as we were waiting for her to speak. Then the spirit told me to read her a few paragraphs from The Family, A Proclamation to the World. So I did  and then after a few minutes she said that makes sense and that she wants a family like that and she will live the law of chastity. The spirit is AMAZING! And truly takes over as we rely on Christ.
    Equally Yoked Companions :)
  • We got to go to the temple today! That was honestly one of the best parts of this week. Being a last transfer missionary is pretty hard but the temple is so healing and peaceful and I could truly feel Christ's love. I am so grateful for temples and sweet members who take us!
  • We had so many miracles tracting this week! We ran into a family who has had missionaries come over a lot in the past so we got to teach them! And we knocked into a woman who let us right in and we shared a message with her and she loved it and told us to come back the next day! Independence is wonderful!
The Elders saw us walking so they gave us Frosties!

  • Another reason why Independence is the best. I serve at the Independence Visitors' Center. I have taken some seriously powerful tours recently. I love giving tours there because the Spirit is already there, we just have to personalize it to the guests to help them receive the spiritual nourishment they need.

  • Also, my friends from Inde 3rd ward keep visiting me because I'm so close! It is a dream come true!
    Sister Martinez from 3rd Ward

    Leah from 3rd Ward

Okay, spiritual thought for the week. A member took us to an Asian restaurant today and my fortune cookie said "Courage comes from suffering"....
but lets talk about it
As we suffer aka go through hard things we have a few choices. We can turn to the Lord and find strength (courage) and peace or we can turn to the world and find chaos and temporary happiness. True joy and courage never came from the world, it has always come from our Savior Jesus Christ. This week some one said something to me that was very powerful. They said, Jesus Christ suffered for exactly what you are going through right now. Jesus Christ's atonement reaches EVERYTHING we go through. It reaches exactly what you are going through in this moment. Big or small. As we turn to Him we find the courage and peace we need.
so yes fortune cookie, Courage does come from suffering (as we turn to the Savior)

I love you all! Have a great week!

Week 72: Back at the VC!!

Hello everyone!
Let me tell you how I am LIVING THE DREAM RIGHT NOW!!!
So transfers were this past week and
IM BACK IN INDE
IN INDE 1ST WARD
AT THE VC
WITH MY BABY, SISTER SUTTON
Tracting with Sister Sutton

Every part of that sentence just makes me so happy!
It has been an amazing week and I have loved getting to know the sweet and kind people of Independence 1st ward. There are a lot of Polynesians in this ward so it has been exciting trying to learn all of their names.... haha
Service!
I am excited to meet the people we are working with. I have met a few so far and they are great!
I am excited to get to work hard and have fun in Independence for the last part of my mission! I'm surrounded by so many great missionaries!
I found a cactus in MO!

This week my spiritual thought is about prayer. Prayer is so important because as we turn towards prayer then we are turning to our Heavenly Father and our Savior instead of relying on ourselves. I love this video because it discusses the importance of being strong spiritually and prayer is a great way to build your spiritual muscles. https://www.lds.org/ensign/2018/06/staying-centered-in-christ-when-the-world-is-trying-to-knock-you-off-balance?cid=HP_MO-21-5-2018_dPTH_fENSIGN_xLIDyL1-C_&lang=eng

I love you all!
Have a great week!

Week 71: Transfer Week

Historic Liberty Jail

End of transfer testimony meeting and hymns

Hello everyone!
It has been a wonderful week! It is the last week of the transfer- transfers are this Thursday and I just cannot believe it! This transfer is my last transfer on the mission. Time flies when you are sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ :)
News from this week:
  • I am going to be training again!!! I am so excited! I love training and it will be a great way to end my mission!
    Last week with Sister Holt
  • One of the families that we are teaching came to church! And it was mother's day so it was the perfect day for them to come!! It was so exciting!
  • I got to take one of my favorite investigators from NKC ward on a tour last week. Seeing her just made my heart so happy! She has a really hard life but it was so special that we were able to see each other and talk about everything.
  • It was Mother's Day!  I got to talk to my family! That was wonderful of course. Families are the center of this gospel and its my favorite thing to be able to help others strengthen their families as they turn to Jesus Christ.
  • We got to do lots of service this week! There have been very few service opportunities in this ward so I was so grateful this week! My favorite one this week was this massive garden that we weeded! It was insane, we had to bring the whole zone over. But now the Relief Society is going to use that garden and plant vegetables in it so that they can make salsa in the fall. It is such a great idea!
  • The cutest old couple ever in my ward is getting sealed in the temple on Saturday. I am so excited! He is a recent convert so we get to visit them every other week, they are such wonderful people!
Sister Stoddard's birthday breakfast

My thought this week come from a talk that I read. It is "The Infinite Power of Hope" by Elder Uchtdorf. In this talk he discusses the power of hope when our hope is centered on our Savior, Jesus Christ. He says that as we put our hope in the Savior and His atonement, then we can find peace and strength, especially during difficult times. One of my favorite quotes said, "And to all who suffer- to all who feel discouraged, worried, or lonely- I say with love and deep concern for you, never give in. Never surrender. Never allow despair to overcome your spirit. Embrace and rely upon the Hope of Israel, for the love of the Son of God pierces all darkness, softens all sorrow, and gladdens every heart." I just want to bear my testimony of the truthfulness of this message. As we turn to our Savior he will be there to succor us in the hard times, and to make the good times even better. I would love to invite all of you to read this wonderful talk.

I love you all!
