Week 72: Back at the VC!!

Hello everyone!
Let me tell you how I am LIVING THE DREAM RIGHT NOW!!!
So transfers were this past week and
IM BACK IN INDE
IN INDE 1ST WARD
AT THE VC
WITH MY BABY, SISTER SUTTON
Tracting with Sister Sutton

Every part of that sentence just makes me so happy!
It has been an amazing week and I have loved getting to know the sweet and kind people of Independence 1st ward. There are a lot of Polynesians in this ward so it has been exciting trying to learn all of their names.... haha
Service!
I am excited to meet the people we are working with. I have met a few so far and they are great!
I am excited to get to work hard and have fun in Independence for the last part of my mission! I'm surrounded by so many great missionaries!
I found a cactus in MO!

This week my spiritual thought is about prayer. Prayer is so important because as we turn towards prayer then we are turning to our Heavenly Father and our Savior instead of relying on ourselves. I love this video because it discusses the importance of being strong spiritually and prayer is a great way to build your spiritual muscles. https://www.lds.org/ensign/2018/06/staying-centered-in-christ-when-the-world-is-trying-to-knock-you-off-balance?cid=HP_MO-21-5-2018_dPTH_fENSIGN_xLIDyL1-C_&lang=eng

I love you all!
Have a great week!

Week 71: Transfer Week

Historic Liberty Jail

End of transfer testimony meeting and hymns

Hello everyone!
It has been a wonderful week! It is the last week of the transfer- transfers are this Thursday and I just cannot believe it! This transfer is my last transfer on the mission. Time flies when you are sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ :)
News from this week:
  • I am going to be training again!!! I am so excited! I love training and it will be a great way to end my mission!
    Last week with Sister Holt
  • One of the families that we are teaching came to church! And it was mother's day so it was the perfect day for them to come!! It was so exciting!
  • I got to take one of my favorite investigators from NKC ward on a tour last week. Seeing her just made my heart so happy! She has a really hard life but it was so special that we were able to see each other and talk about everything.
  • It was Mother's Day!  I got to talk to my family! That was wonderful of course. Families are the center of this gospel and its my favorite thing to be able to help others strengthen their families as they turn to Jesus Christ.
  • We got to do lots of service this week! There have been very few service opportunities in this ward so I was so grateful this week! My favorite one this week was this massive garden that we weeded! It was insane, we had to bring the whole zone over. But now the Relief Society is going to use that garden and plant vegetables in it so that they can make salsa in the fall. It is such a great idea!
  • The cutest old couple ever in my ward is getting sealed in the temple on Saturday. I am so excited! He is a recent convert so we get to visit them every other week, they are such wonderful people!

My thought this week come from a talk that I read. It is "The Infinite Power of Hope" by Elder Uchtdorf. In this talk he discusses the power of hope when our hope is centered on our Savior, Jesus Christ. He says that as we put our hope in the Savior and His atonement, then we can find peace and strength, especially during difficult times. One of my favorite quotes said, "And to all who suffer- to all who feel discouraged, worried, or lonely- I say with love and deep concern for you, never give in. Never surrender. Never allow despair to overcome your spirit. Embrace and rely upon the Hope of Israel, for the love of the Son of God pierces all darkness, softens all sorrow, and gladdens every heart." I just want to bear my testimony of the truthfulness of this message. As we turn to our Savior he will be there to succor us in the hard times, and to make the good times even better. I would love to invite all of you to read this wonderful talk.

I love you all!

Week 70: Love One Another

Sister Hooley!

Hello everyone!
It has been a great week for sure! I am also really excited for this upcoming week- we have  a lot of lessons planned in and great things are going on in the New Mark area!
My district!

So basically this past Saturday was the best day of my entire life. Here is the play by play.
So we woke up way earlier than missionaries ever do and we went to the stake center to go help set up for the Temple Run 5K. It was so much fun and then at 9 am the temple run started! Most of the mission was there, and a ton of members were there- there was a great turn out!

Temple Run with Sister Bingham!

Then Sister Holt and I headed home and we got ready really quickly and the Petersons picked us up so that we could go to Independence. FOR A BAPTISM FROM SOMEONE I TAUGHT A YEAR AGO!!!! Seeing Rob baptized was one of the most special experiences of my mission. Some of my favorite families from 3rd ward were there and a lot of missionaries that had served in 3rd ward before were there as well (Rob has had a lot of missionaries). I was able to be with Sister Welch as we talked to everyone and it felt like old times!
missionaries who have served in my first area since I was there!! (they turned it into an elder area right after I left...)

Then we headed back to Liberty and we had a great shift at the jail! At the very end of the shift, some fundamentalists came in! I hear that they come to the jail quite often but I had never met any so it was interesting to be able to meet them and take them on a tour.

Other highlights:
- I have the best companion ever and we just laugh all the time

- We got a new senior couple! They are so cute!

- The prophet came into the Jail today!! It is so sad because I wasn't at the jail, I was at the house. But how special!
- There was a tornado this week! It wasn't near us, but there were some pretty crazy storms
- We have had KFC twice this week #throwbacktoinde
- speaking of Inde, we are going there today!

I have been thinking a lot about ministering lately. On Sunday a majority of the testimonies were about people who had been the recipients of someone ministering to them, and how grateful they were! It has made me think a lot about ministering and how many people have ministered to me while I have been on the mission. From the ward members who feed us, give us rides, bring us medicine when we are sick, to the other missionaries who write uplifting notes and give blessings and do random acts of kindness, to the people of Missouri who are so kind and the many of them that have reached out and helped me, even when they weren't members of the church. I am also so grateful to the many people that have ministered to me from far away, the random emails, and letters and packages I receive mean the world to me. I am so grateful for the amount of people I come in contact with everyday that have made the decision in their heart to be like the Savior. It makes me want to be better and better and be that for others!

The Bronsons, they are on their way back to Idaho now! I served with them my entire mission and I love them so much!

I love you all so much!

Week 69: Cleansing the Inner Vessel

Hello!
It has been a wonderful week in the Missouri Independence Mission. The flowers are blooming, everything is turning green, and we are doing lots of work here!
Here are some of the best moments:
  •   Zone conference! It was amazing! My companion, Sister Holt gave a beautiful departing testimony and the Spirit was so strong. I love coming together with other missionaries, I always learn so much.
    My beautiful companion Sister Holt
  • Exchanges! I went on exchanges with Sister Gudgeon, my old companion! It was really great! We took some Spanish people on a tour but luckily they had an interpreter! The interpreter could only say about 5 words at a time, so we had to really think about what we were saying and say things really simply. It was a great teaching experience!
  • I went to the dentist and at the end he gave me a sticker that said I have now joined the no cavities club #winning
  • Sister Dawson came back to visit!!! It was such a surprise and it was so fun!! Shes the best <3
    Sister Dawson!
  • We received a referral last week for a woman who has been inactive for about 20 years and she wants to start coming back to church. I love her story, she wants to start coming back because she has seen the example of other people faithfully living the gospel and it has inspired her to make changes in her life. What a great gospel we are a part of!

Earlier this week I was reading a talk about missionary work and it said that we are conduits and channels, we are not the light. This really stood out to me because as we all strive to share the gospel and be examples of our Savior Jesus Christ, it is not us who is converting people. It is the Spirit and the truths that they recognize. This definitely makes me want to be the best vessel that I can be for the Spirit and the gospel. That leads me to this amazing talk! This talk is called "Cleansing the Inner Vessel" and it discusses things we can do to become better examples and better vessels. I would love to invite all of you to read it and pick something form it to apply to your lives. As we constantly work on becoming better, the Lord is able to bless us with opportunities to do so. https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1986/04/cleansing-the-inner-vessel?lang=eng

I love you all!
