Week 29: Baptisms and Spanish Dinners

Vaile Victorian Mansion in Independence

Hello everyone!
This has been an insane week! But I have loved every single second of it, here are a few of the things that happened this week :)

The Vaile Mansion - not as spooky as I have heard...

So Wednesday was the best day ever! We spent about 5 hours in the doctors office, but they finally figured out what has been wrong with my stomach! So we were super excited about that! While we were at the doctors, we got a text and a man moved into our ward who had previously been meeting with missionaries and he is on date for baptism! So that was so exciting. Then later that day we were tracting. Our zone plan for this past week was to invite someone to be baptized as a companionship, everyday. That was definitely really scary, and it took a lot of faith to complete this zone plan. So we were tracting and we started talking to this one lady and teaching her and she was pretty interested in the Plan of Salvation because she loves her family. I invited her to be baptized while we were talking on the doorstep, and she said yes!! That was a huge and exciting miracle!
Doctors Office

On Friday we went to the vc to wait for our dinner to be dropped off, and as we were waiting the Santa Fe ward mission leader came up to us and started speaking to us. Real quick, Santa Fe is the Spanish branch. He was speaking to us in Spanish.... He keeps pointing at the door and talking fast and we figure out that he wants us to come with him. So we look at the Spanish elders and they aren’t much help with translating, so we just went with all of them. They were speaking Spanish the entire time!!! The Elders started to translate for us, so that was nice, but it was so confusing! High school Spanish failed me... haha. But at the dinner, there was 2 English speaking investigators that Santa Fe had, so they referred them over to us, and they are both on date for baptism as well!! And they speak English thankfully. We saw so many miracles this week!

This article came out in the Ensign this month, and I loved it! It was not only cool because it has to do with my mission but also because it was a great article about trusting in the Lord and His will for us, even when we don't understand it. I would like to invite all of you to read it! Elder Bednar has so many great insights. https://www.lds.org/liahona/2017/07/on-the-lords-side-lessons-from-zions-camp?lang=eng&_r=1&cid=HP_MO_17-7-2017_dPFD_fLHNA_xLIDyL2-4_

Week 28: Dinner with D.

Good morning everyone!
This week has been a great one! Everyday is adventure with Sister Welch, she has such a great attitude and makes everything so fun. It doesn't matter if we are just knocking doors or serving at the visitors' center, it is all so great! Here are a few highlights from this week:

Exchanges with Sister Lifferth

We went on exchanges yesterday! It was funny because the vcls(visitor center leaders) live in the same apartment complex as us, so it was just like a fun sleepover. Then I got to spend the next day with Sister Lifferth, and she is such a great missionary. I loved learning from her!

D. invited us to dinner this week! So we got to have dinner with her and teach her at the same time. She said she is going to come to the Book of Mormon class the zone leaders put on every week, so we are pumped for that! Her house is so cute, she loves animal prints so everything had animal prints on it. everything.

D.'s House

I took an amazing tour late last week. A couple came in, and they were both members. But they were bringing their non-member friend in because she has been dealing with a lot of pain and suffering caused by the loss of a few loved ones. So we went through God's Plan and then we went to the Christus statue. And while we were at the Christus statue, I was able to teach her about the Plan of Salvation. The Spirit was SO strong and her members friends were helping her understand everything and it was just such a powerful experience. It was such a testimony to me that the Lord loves all of His children, and He puts people in our path for a reason.

I love this article that the church put out about Teaching in the Savior's Way. I love that the church has really been pushing this program and inviting everyone to follow because as we teach like the Savior did, our teaching becomes much more powerful. It becomes more powerful because it isn't us teaching anymore. It is the Spirit bearing witness of the simple truths that we have learned because of Jesus Christ. This is so important! I would like to invite all of you to read this article and think about how you can more teach in the Savior's way. https://www.lds.org/liahona/2017/07/a-teacher-who-helps-save-souls?cid=HP_WE_12-7-2017_dPFD_fLHNA_xLIDyL1-C_&lang=eng
I love you all!

Week 27: Six Months!

Hello hello!
This week has been amazing! We are making such great progress with one of our investigators, the VC has been super busy and Sister Welch is the best!

We had an AMAZING lesson with one of our investigators this past week and she is now praying about moving her baptism date up, because at the last lesson she chose a baptism date for next year. But we were able to have a really spiritual lesson with her on the Plan of Salvation and help her feel and understand the blessings that come from being baptized. Also! She hasn’t smoked for officially a week! And she is starting to realize the spiritual and physical blessings that are coming from it, and she has been telling us about them. She is so great! We are going over there later today to play games, and I can’t wait.

Yesterday the VC was so busy, but that made it so great! We had 8 families waiting to take a history tour, and at that moment, a bus tour came walking in. All of the sisters were busy but it worked out so well! I have found that no matter how busy it gets, it always works out and as long as all of the sisters are working together, then everyone who comes in can have a spiritual experience. It is amazing to see what we can accomplish when we are led by the Spirit.
Half of the mission

We also got to go to a half mission conference this week and officially meet President and Sister Love. They are the sweetest couple! They talked about how important hard work is and that they expect a lot from us, which is great. I can’t wait to see what great changes and improvements they bring to the mission.

I got to see Sister Davidson (my mother) at the half mission conference! That was one of the highlights of my week. She is the best!

In our history tour here at the VC, we share a story about 4 missionaries who were called to preach to the Lamanite or Native American people, but the government wouldn't let them so they taught the people of Independence instead. I have truly come to admire these missionaries because they understood that they were not called to a place, but they were called to the work. They were called to share this great gospel. That is so important for all of us to understand, it doesn't matter where we are, we should always be giving others the opportunity to learn of this gospel. Elder Bednar gave an amazing talk on this, https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2017/04/called-to-the-work?cid=HP_MO_3-7-2017_dPFD_fGC_xLIDyL1-B_&lang=eng.

I have been out for 6 months today! Crazy how time flies!

It's our 6 month birthday!

I love you all!
