Week 42: Transfers and Elder De Hoyos

Sister Dawson and Sister Cammack

So much has happened this past week! It has literally been insane, but that’s mission life :)
Soooooo…

  • Sister Rust got transferred!! super sad :( But I stayed in North Kansas City ward in the jail and Sister Dawson is my new companion! She is seriously the best, I am so stoked for this next transfer!

  • I was called to be a Visitor Center Trainer (kind of like a Sister Training Leader for the Liberty Jail) I am so excited and nervous for this amazing opportunity! I get to go on exchanges with other sister missionaries and I go to mission leadership conferences. I’m also in charge of a lot of clerical stuff at the jail. It reminds me a lot of my good ol’ band times.

  • We moved into the jail house!! The jail house is a house right by the Historic Liberty Jail and usually only 3 of the 4 companionships live there but they took a car away from our rotation so now we all live there!! 8 sisters! it is so crazy but so much fun! I am looking forward to this transfer so much, we are all such good friends. Also, it means we all get to share each other’s clothes. Watch out world- I now have 8 closets.

  • Elder De Hoyos came to MO and spoke in our stake conference, it was so good! He also came to the jail after and we got to take him through and go inside and take a pic with him! It was awesome!

  • We have been getting a really solid amount of referrals this week! It has been a huge blessing! Basically I am just so excited for this transfer! It is going to be such a great one and we are going to see so many miracles.

Our stake president gave an amazing talk at stake conference yesterday. He listed 4 things that we need to be doing in order to claim the great blessings that Heavenly Father has in store for us. The 4 things are daily prayer, scripture study, having family home evening and regular temple attendance. The one that really stood out to me was having family home evening. It is such an easy thing to skip over in today’s busy world but if we aren’t making time for Heavenly Father in our life, then our life is too busy with the wrong things. I know that as we make time for our Heavenly Father and the things he has counseled us to do, like family home evenings, then we will be so blessed and our family will be so blessed!
I love and miss you all!

Week 40: 8 Witness Monument

Cool, old Liberty Jail sign! (Not all of the info on it is correct... hence why it is in the basement)

Hello everyone! It has been another great week serving in Liberty Jail!

This week’s highlights:
  • they made a new missionary area book app! It is great because it is going to work really well with the iPhone that our mission is going to be testing out this year!
  •   I took the coolest tour! It was this cute family that was all matching because they were on their way to a wedding. Afterwards the 11-year-old girl came up to me by herself and was telling me how thankful she was that I was serving and that she loved the tour. Then she told me she was so excited to serve a mission and that nothing can stop her from serving one. I was able to testify to her how much my mission has changed my life and it was such a tender moment! I love serving at Liberty Jail
  • It was S. Anderson's birthday Friday and we had a little jail sister party before shift and it was so fun! There are A TON of October bdays in the jail! #partycentral
  •   I hit 9 months this Wednesday!!!!!! Ahhhhh
  • We got to sit down with A. this week and talk about the gospel instead of just doing service. It was great! We invited her to a relief society party and she said she wants to go! We are so excited for her.
    8 Witness Monument
  •  the coolest experience of the week was visiting the 8 Witness Monument with the jail sisters. There was 8 of us so we got to share our testimonies of the Book of Mormon. It was one of the most amazing and spiritual moments of my life! The Book of Mormon is so important.
Life is going great!

I love the first presidency message this month, https://www.lds.org/liahona/2017/10/becoming-true-disciples?lang=eng&_r=1&cid=HP_FR_1-9-2017_dPFD_fLHNA_xLIDyL2-1_.
It love this message because it invites us to draw closer to our Savior. But that looks different for everyone else, as everyone is at such a different spiritual level. I invite all of you to think of a way to draw closer to your Savior and do that to draw closer to Him this week. We were at a dinner last night talking about this and the man said, I am working very hard on becoming a better disciple of Christ. I know its going to take a long time but its worth it.
It is so worth it!
Love you all!

Week 39: North Kansas City

So serious!

Hello everyone!

This has been a great week in North Kansas City!!
Some of the highlights:
- SM was baptized!!! That was such an amazing moment. She has such a strong faith and was so excited to be baptized.

- general conference!!! I was at the Liberty Jail for a lot of it, so I get to go read them all. But the few I saw were so amazing!!
- scariest moment of the mission!!! We got home and I went to unlock the door and it just pushed open.... so we freaked out and ran away. After a pep talk from our zone leader, we went back and there was no one in our house. For real though, the Lord keeps us safe.
- We had spirit week!! One of the days we dressed up as the men in Liberty Jail and took the coolest photo ever of us posing like them!

- I found a boba place right by the jail!! It CHANGED MY LIFE!! It was really good too.

- On Friday night we were on shift for 4 hours and... no one came into the jail.... so we had to get creative to stay entertained
      - we learned Spanish for 1.5 hour
      - we did a photo shoot
      - we played games like patty cake, concentration and other primary games
If you didn't have a chance to watch conference, or all of it (like me) here is the website to watch it! https://www.lds.org/general-conference?cid=HP_SA_30-9-2017_dPFD_fGC_xLIDyL2-3_

There were so many inspired talks. One that I loved was Elder Oaks talk. The family is so important!!
I love and miss you all!
