Week 20: Everything is bigger in Texas!

We saw a legit swamp! You can't really tell from the pictures though. My comp is also from AZ so we were both freaking out cause we thought it was awesome.

Good morning! I hope you are all having the best day ever!
This week has been pretty great! We are teaching a lot of people and helping some recent converts prepare to go to the temple, it has been so exciting.
My district!

The visitors center has still been pretty slow lately but we had a huge surprise the other day! So, there was no tours going on and we are all sitting in the lobby when all of a sudden TONS of college kids start pouring through the doors! We were so confused! So we went to go meet them and we tried to go talk with all of them but they were all just wandering around. They told us that they had come from Texas and they wanted a tour. The senior couple started to freak out a little bit because it was an unscheduled tour so we hadn’t prepared for it. But it ended up being so fun! And at the end all of them sang at the Christus statue with us and all of the parts were covered so it sounded amazing. The Spirit was there so strong and it was such a tender moment for all of us.

One of my friends from seminary in AZ was part of the Texas college tour that came in! So cool!

The rest of the week has been great! Missouri still can’t make up its mind, so it rains randomly throughout the day and then it gets hot and then it gets really cold and then it rains again. Crazy MO, haha.

The June Ensign came out this past week! It has great articles about missionary work and how to be a missionary even when you aren't a full-time missionary. I'd like to go invite you all to read those articles. When full time missionaries and members work together, amazing miracles can happen and we can spread the gospel even further.

I love you all!

Week 19: Christmas in May

Flowers blooming in front of the Visitor's Center

Hello everybody! This week has been such an amazing week! We have seen so many miracles in our area in just a few short days.

I was really able to experience D&C 84:85 (verse 85 Neither take ye thought beforehand what ye shall say; but treasure up in your minds continually the words of life, and it shall be given you in the very hour that portion that shall be meted unto every man.)  in person Saturday afternoon. 2 Elders came in with an investigator and right before they walked in I was told that they just needed a teaching room so I went to go greet them and take them to a teaching room. But before I could do that one of the elders looked at me and said, okay, we are ready to start now! And right at that moment one of the senior missionaries hands me the tour slip and says, sorry! I forgot to give this to you! So, I started the tour without knowing any background information. Luckily they wanted to do God's Plan so I was able to look over the tour slip a little bit and pray to know what the investigator needed to hear. I still wasn’t quite sure what I was going to say by the end of God's Plan but I just started talking and the Spirit told me what needed to be said and even gave me a few inspired questions to ask. I was so grateful! It was amazing actually having the Spirit work through me like that and to be able to still give the investigator a growing experience, even though I didn’t have time to prepare.

Our Bishop put us on the cover of the program for Sunday....

Then Tuesday was the huge miracle day. We were on shift in the morning and it was unusually slow, we only took one tour. But it was still a great tour, it was four women from Texas and they were all converts so we got to have a testimony meeting in the middle of the tour and the Spirit was so strong. Then after shift we went to go deliver a Book of Mormon and Bible to a referral from mormon.org. We had seen her a few times before but she was never very open. So as soon as she opens the door she goes, Is that my Bible and Book of Mormon??? She was so excited! It was amazing! So of course we said yes and went on to explain the books of scripture a little bit more. Then she goes, okay so when can you come over next week? We were so blown away! Investigators never ask us to come teach them! Then we called a less active member who has multiple kids who were investigators but they had all moved away recently. And she told us that they are coming to visit soon and are hoping to move back here! Then we went to a less-actives house who never answers the door or lets us in and she answered and set up an appointment with us for later this week! It was so awesome. Then we had to go to the visitor’s center for the rest of the night, so while we were there we decided to call one of our old investigators who dropped us. She apologized and said she has been really busy and we set up a time to meet for next week! I am so amazed and so blessed to see how many miracles that God has given us. This area has been quite slow lately but that is all starting to change and I am so excited to get to teach these people and help them learn more about God and their Savior and how to draw closer to them.

Fun story, a couple came into the visitors center this week and the woman pulled our director aside and said that her boyfriend has been wanting to get married for years (she is less-active and he is a recent convert) but she has always told him no. She decided that she is ready and said that she was going to tell him at the Christus statue today. So, our director and his wife took them through God's Plan for Families (a presentation on families we have here) and then led them to the Christus where she told her boyfriend! Then they all walked over to the stake center right after and got married!! It was so crazy! No one knew what was going to happen except for her.

I saw this video on lds.org this week and I love it and the title that they put with it, Distracted by Doubts or Focused on Faith. It is so easy to become distracted by not only our doubts but about others as well. But we are able to overcome these doubts and help others understand as well as we stay focused on our faith and keep Jesus Christ as the focus in our life, not as one of the side things that we think about occasionally. We need to keep the faith to walk on the water and not sink, but because our Savior is so loving we know that He will always be there when we stumble or start to sink. https://www.lds.org/media-library/video/2014-01-024-wherefore-didst-thou-doubt?&cld=HP_TH_18-5-2017_dPFD_fMLIB_xLIDyL1-A_&lang=eng

I hope that you all have a safe week and I love you all!!

We made a gingerbread train this morning with the Johnsons! We decorated it to look like Christmas in May! So there were flowers and snow, haha it was a great time!

We decorated our table in our house all fancy! It was so fun.

Week 18: Happy Mother's Day!

The Holdaways

Hello!
This week was fantastic! I just love being on a mission and it is so amazing how much I’ve learned- even though I have only been out for 4 months.

First of all, Happy Mother’s day to all of the great mothers I know! I love you all and you are amazing people! Especially my mom and my grandmas- they’re the best!

So this week we have been going around to less-actives houses and giving them mothers roses for mother’s day. It has been such a good experience! I have been able to meet and get to know a lot of people in our ward who I have never met before. We were also able to bring some roses to some ladies in a nursing home and seeing their faces just made my week. They are the sweetest ladies!

We had to say a lot of goodbyes at the visitors center last week! 2 of my favorite senior couples left. The Holdaways and the Wilsons. I love serving in a mission with so many senior couples, they become our best friends! Which is so funny because they all have grandchildren our age!
The Wilsons

A huge miracle happened in our zone a few days ago that I would like to share with you all. So 2 sets of Elders were on their p-day and were shopping at Walmart. One set challenged the other to hand out a pass along card while they were there. They kind of laughed and blew it off. As they were walking out of the store a cashier ran up to them and asked them who they were. They explained and talked about the church and then gave him that pass along card, which just happened to be a visitors center pass along card. The man came to the visitors center that day, and then every day after that for about 2 weeks. He started bringing his 3 kids with him as well. We found out that he lives in our ward boundaries so the other sisters in our ward started teaching him and he, his brother and his 9 year old daughter are all getting baptized later this month! It is amazing and crazy how one little act of spreading the gospel, or passing out a pass along card, can change someone’s life eternally.

Make it a great week everyone! I love you all!
Much love,
Sister Cammack

Someone came on and actually thought I was a girl!!  Every single time they assume I am a boy and call me brother or elder or man... haha this was a big accomplishment!

Week 17: Transfers to the Sea

My new companion Sister Mudrow

Hello everyone!

This has been a week with a lot of changes! I got a new companion this morning! Her name is Sister Mudrow and she is from Freedonia, Az and she has been out on her mission for 6 months. They also whitewashed the other set of sisters in my ward so I am the only missionary in the ward (out of 4) who knows anything about the area. So that has definitely been so crazy but it has also been a great learning experience! I also got moved out of the Dollhouse. So I had to pack up all of my stuff as well. I now live in "Sea". It is a building with 6 apartments in it and it is called Sea because it is on Sea Avenue. Only missionaries live in the apartments so it is a lot safer and a lot nicer. We have a bedroom, bathroom, tons of closets, and a study room, a living room with a couch and recliners and a dining area with a dining table and a kitchen. It majorly looks like the 70s but I'm excited to live in it!

Sister Davidson and I in front of our house with a cup that says "families can be together forever' (unless you get transferred) haha I will miss my mission mother (trainer)

Also, our only investigators moved.... so we have none. But! The sisters gave us one of theirs which was so nice of them!! So now we have an investigator :) I’m excited to meet her! I love how much the mission is helping me learn and grow. This week we have mainly been doing finding and door knocking and preparing me to take over the area. But we did have the BYU dance group- Living Legends- come take a tour. I’m excited to keep working hard and to get to work with new sisters! Have a great week everyone!

 Love you all!

On exchanges with Sister GC. We were eating at McDonalds and we saw Bill there! Bill was taught by VC sisters so he loves us and drops off a lot of candy and desserts and fruit every other week. He is the best!
